Norma Smith, PhD

  • Biography:

I worked in Kaiser Permanente’s Oakland Medical Center from 1985 until my retirement in May of 2012. I have been writing since shortly after I learned to read, somewhere around 1953. My work has been published in literary, political, and scholarly journals over the past 40 years or so. I am currently working on a book based in interviews with individuals who have served on medical ethics committees. The first draft of “House Calls” was written during the 2011 Taos Writing Retreat for Health Professionals, which is co-sponsored by The Permanente Journal (TPJ) I am grateful to TPJ for this gift.
