Flying Birds Sunset

photograph

I’ve been taking pictures and writing since the early 1960s when I started with a $25 Kodak Retinette and a diary. My dad gave me a love of words, and my mom gave me an appreciation of beauty and light.

My mentor and friend at Antioch College, Ben Thompson said, “When the sense of poetry is gone, the ball-game’s over.” It’s easy to lose that sense of poetry, but taking pictures, writing, and more importantly, staying in touch, helps me remember what’s important.

My interest in photography might best be expressed by this quote from Paul Scott (Jewel in the Crown): “But there was so much to see in the world, I felt one couldn’t afford to be slack about it.
